Amazon Prime Day arrives next week, just in time for you to pick up everything you need for all those summer projects you’re planning to tackle. From July 8 through the 11th, you can expect to find great deals from power tools from many of our favorite brands, including DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Craftsman.
If you’re upgrading your lawn care setup, there are also deals to be had on battery-powered yard tools from Husqvarna, Greenworks, and Ego. We’re tracking the best Prime Day deals as they rise and fall, all the way through the end of the sale: Make sure to check back regularly before you buy to make sure you’re seeing the best of the best.
Sure, you can browse through the hundreds of sale items on Amazon on Prime Day, but you likely won’t find the best deals that way. Here are some strategies to help you sift through all the sale lists and find the things you want.
Prime Day covers a broad range of tools, but I’ve found that brands tend to offer the best deals on power tools, including cordless drills, impact drivers, circular saws, and miter saws. You also usually see lots of price cuts on outdoor yard equipment, such as chainsaws, leaf blowers, and string trimmers.
Lots of brands offer deals to capitalize on Prime Day, but some brands engage more than others. DeWalt usually sets up more deals than any other major tool manufacturer, as does Craftsman. Though not as prolific as Craftsman and DeWalt, such brands as Milwaukee, Makita, Greenworks, and Husqvarna also frequently offer discounts on their cordless tools during major sales events.
You’ll always find a solid drill and driver combo kit on sale when Prime Day rolls around. This pair of 20V tools from DeWalt is perfect for newcomers and avid DIYers alike. The DCD771 drill driver can reach speeds of up to 1,500 RPM. The impact driver (DCF885) can deliver maximum torque of up to 1,400 inch-pounds, giving you plenty of power for even larger lag bolts. This set also comes with a pair of batteries and a charger, making it a great value.
This versatile little drill/driver is a great all-in-one solution for odd jobs around the house. It comes with four attachments for handling different drilling and driving demands–a locking bit holder, keyless chuck, offset angle, and right-angle driver. The heads are easy to swap in and out, thanks to Bosch’s one-click attachment design. It offers decent power, too, producing a max speed of 1,750 RPM and max torque of 300 inch-pounds.
If you don’t keep a workshop but need some essential power tools for occasional work around the house, this affordable drill and impact driver combo from Craftsman is an inexpensive way to get the job done. While Craftsman isn’t as prestigious as some of the other brands here, these tools can still hang with the best of them: The drill reaches a max speed of 1,500 RPM, and the impact driver puts out a very respectable 1,460 inch-pounds of torque. Plus you get two batteries and a charger. It’s a rock-bottom price for two workshop workhorses.
If you have any remodeling jobs on your to-do list this summer, then you’re going to need a good reciprocating saw to handle the demolition phase of the project. This 20V DeWalt model offers professional performance, with a blade speed of up to 3,000 strokes per minute (SPM). You can set the blade to four different positions, which lets you easily make cuts at various angles. Its rubberized grips help you keep a good grip on the saw as you cut. It’s an especially good deal if you’re already invested in DeWalt, and have some spare 20-volt DeWalt batteries in your collection.
If you don’t have a miter saw in your home workshop, then now may be the time to finally get one. Metabo’s miter saw produces a max 5,000 RPM, so you can expect smooth cuts. It bevels to the left up to 45 degrees for compound cuts and offers a wide, 52-degree range to either side for miter cuts. The Metabo 10-inch miter saw was already a great value: Now, at 30 percent off, it’s a bona fide steal.
This is a great deal from the company that invented the portable circular saw nearly 100 years ago. This 7-1/4-inch circular saw reaches speeds of up to 5,300 RPM, and can make bevel cuts at up to 51 degrees. This isn’t a pro-grade tool, but it’s capable of handling pretty much any home carpentry job you might stumble into. At this price, you’d be hard pressed to find a more affordable quality circular saw.
Recently anointed as Popular Mechanics’ best chainsaw, the Power Axe 350i earned top marks for its power, ease of use, and long battery life when I tested it earlier this year. Husqvarna chainsaws typically come with a higher price tag than most, but it’s 20 percent off, increasing its value. Anyone with a lot of trees to manage on their property should take note and take advantage.
This powerful electric leaf blower is ideal for garage clean-up or clearing leaves and grass clippings off your walks, decks and patios. It can reach a max air speed of 116 MPH and air volume of 459 CFM. It also comes with cool user-friendly features you won’t see on your average blower, including cruise control level and a variable speed trigger. At about half-off, it’s a great deal on a yard machine from a premium brand.
This large Greenworks chainsaw offers excellent cutting capacity and runtime at a price that won’t break the bank. Powered by a large 80-volt motor, it delivers comparable power to a 42cc gas chainsaw. (Only this one starts at the press of a button and is virtually maintenance-free.) Not everyone needs an 18-inch chainsaw, but this is a cheap and effective option if you need to bring down and break down a large tree.
You may not need a leaf blower in June, but fall is just around the corner. This option from Ego packs enough oomph to get your lawn clean and clear, with a booming 765 CFM max air volume, and 200 MPH max air speed. It comes with a large 5.0Ah battery, so you’ll be able to get around 90 minutes of run time on a single charge, which is plenty of time for even a large front and back yard.
Tool batteries almost always get a cut on Prime Day, so if you’ve ever thought about buying a spare, now’s the time. Milwaukee batteries have always been pricey, so I wanted to highlight this 18V, 5.0 Ah two-pack, which has received a big price cut. They’re compatible with any Milwaukee 18-volt tool, and give you 2.5 times more runtime than the standard 2.0 Ah batteries included with many Milwaukee cordless tools. These batteries are more than replacements, they’re upgrades.
At 50 percent off, this smaller version of our best value mechanic tool set is priced to move. It comes with three ratchet driver sizes and a well-curated collection of socket sizes. Craftsman’s revised designs feature thinner profiles, so they’re easier to fit in the nooks and crannies of an engine. The kit also includes a large collection of combination wrench sizes, plus Phillips, hex, Torx, and flathead socket bits. All of the pieces are organized in a three-drawer storage bin. This comprehensive socket set is a sensible fit for any home garage.
